High 5 For Friday

It’s SO hard to narrow down my top 5 favorites from this week! Looking back through the pictures* I’ve taken on my cell phone, I’m reminded of how blessed I am. May I never forget that.

1. Family. Spending time with my little cousins is priceless and even if they’re sometimes annoying, I love them to pieces! Autumn is such a sweetheart and is always so loving towards me. Every time I say bye to her, she squeezes me, kisses my cheek, and says, “you’re in my heart, Mere Mere.”

2. Spending time in the Word. Early mornings with coffee and my Bible are my favorites!

3. Exploring The Golden Belt area downtown and taking lots of pictures with Britt! (More to come on that later!)

4. Pad Thai and lunch with fun coworkers. We definitely had a case of the giggles yesterday and laughed throughout lunch.

5. My Valentine’s Day was truly great. My student cancelled class (I think he had a date!) so I went home to workout, eat leftovers, take a hot bath, and then watch Casablanca while chowing down on chocolates. Who needs flowers and a significant other? 😉 (although I do love flowers)

*as I was editing this post earlier and trying to upload pictures, I found out that I have exceeded the 3GB of space that WordPress allows for free blogs. Now I’m torn between buying more space on here, or buying a domain. My biggest problem is that I have NO idea what I would (re)name my blog/domain! HELP!

High 5 For Friday

I could get used to this weekly post: it’s quick, simple, and allows me to remember the things that really made my week stand out!

1. A haircut! I made quite the spur-of-the-moment decision and got a good 6 inches chopped off! It feels amazing and I really like it!

2. Spanish. I’ve gotten to practice a lot this week with helping register new ESOL students, and it’s been a learning experience! I’m trying to up my game so I can be an interpreter on a mission trip to Peru this summer!

3. This song. 10,00 Reasons by Matt Redman.

4. Ordering a small green tea soy latte and ending up getting a large!

5. Tonight I’m going to dinner with some dear friends from college and I.can’t.wait!!! When those two are around, a good time is sure to be had. We’re trying a new place in Raleigh, and I’ve already been drooling over the menu debating what to order!

High 5 for Friday!

I’m linking up with Lauren again to share 5 of my favorite things from this week!

1. Chalking local sidewalks for National Literacy Action Week! Super fun.

2. Pomegranate Kitchen. If you live in my area, I highly suggest you give this Persian food a try! It’s amazing and it’s my new favorite comfort food. I didn’t snag a picture of my delicious lunch (black eyed peas + rice + pomegranate stew) because I snarfed it down so quickly.

3. Downton Abbey. Yes, I’ve jumped on the bandwagon with this one after some friends insisted that I watch. I’m currently on episode 6 of season 2 and wow. I like it more than I thought! Do you watch Downton Abbey?

4. Watching/listening to Youngblood Hawke‘s acoustic session/chat yesterday afternoon was a nice break from listening to the usual classical music at work. Also, the newest album from Local Natives, Hummingbird, was released Tuesday so I’ve been listening to that! Both bands are based in LA so of course I’m wishing I were in that area to catch some awesome concerts!

5. Ruzzle! It’s the only game I play on my phone. If you have Ruzzle, I challenge you to a game! 🙂 username: meremere7890

2. Acting a fool in Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. It was fun.

3. A delicious veggie burger from Kitchen 24 in LA! Seriously, I’m craving one now!

Who wants to read about Duke basketball when you can read an article about Duke football getting ready for the Belk Bowl December 27th!? I’m SO excited. Although I’m not going, I will be cheering them on from wherever I watch!

The 50 Best Literary Insults are great. My favorites are:

“He liked fishing and seemed to take pride in being able to like such a stupid occupation.” (Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy)

“I never saw anybody take so long to dress, and with such little result.” (The Importance of Being Earnest, Oscar Wilde)

“If your brains were dynamite there wouldn’t be enough to blow your hat off.” (Timequake, Kurt Vonnegut).

Speaking of books, I definitely tend to judge books by their covers. If it’s not eye-catching, I probably won’t pick it up. One little 6 year old judged books by their covers and tried to guess what classic novels were about. Super cute. Some of her guesses are actually close!

A few favorite local Durham gifts from! I definitely approve of their choices 😉

Last week on NBC’s Rock Center, children’s book author Mary Pope Osborne talked about her main goal being to encourage children to read. And her Magic Tree House books have definitely engaged more children into picking up a book and reading, as they live vicariously through main characters Annie & Jack. Anyone who encourages youth to read is a friend of mine! 🙂 #literacy

Have you been wondering what the most looked up words of 2012 were? I know I have 😉 Wonder no more, as USA Today provides answers. Capitalism? Socialism? It’s all a bunch of malarky!

Did you see that Chicago University received a package addressed to Henry Walton Jones Jr? Doesn’t sound familiar? Maybe Henry’s nickname Indiana Jones does.

20 Going on 80 has an adorable downloadable desktop background! Her inspiration was a pair of shoes- how neat?

It’s that time again, folks. FRIDAY. And you know what that means… random links from around the globe Internet that I wanted to share! Get ready to rumble! Or rock-n-roll. Or read…

Did you know the capybara is the world’s largest rodent? Yeah, fact of the day!

I tried this Lightened Up Butternut Skillet Shells from How Sweet it is, and I am officially in love with butternut squash. Sure, peeling and cutting it was a bear, but the hearty, fall-y flavor was worth it. So good!

“The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak was adapted for the stage in Chicago. I read half the book a few years ago, and really enjoyed the unique point of view and storyline.

Emily Loerke from Today’s Letters posted about camping & hiking Yosemite’s Half Dome. I really want to be her friend. Looks like such fun!

I found out about Threads of Hope, whose goal is to “break the cycle of poverty through strategies that empower the economically disadvantaged.” I just love the concept of helping people in other countries! Read the rest of this entry

Finally, Friday is here! I have been looking forward to today all week (it’s been stressful and sad, if you’ve been keeping up with my tweets or blog) : tonight I’m going to see Milo Greene, tomorrow is the NC State Fair and the big UNC/DUKE football game, and Sunday I’m going to try out a small group with the Summit Church! I’m really hoping this weekend turns out as fun as I hope it will! 🙂 What are your plans?

I found a few links I wanted to share this week; nothing too exciting.
