He is Risen

Happy Easter Sunday, everyone!

I don’t know what your beliefs are, so today may just be another calendar holiday: one with family, food and fellowship. Or you might just be spending the day on the couch watching the Masters. I don’t know.

But I do know that today isn’t just another calendar holiday for me.

Today is the day that my Savior rose from the dead some 2,000 years ago. He died on the cross for my sins and the sins of the world, was buried, and three days later, He arose! Death could not hold Him down.

1 Corinthians 15:55 “Where, O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is your sting?”

That’s what I celebrate- the death, burial, and praise God, the RESURRECTION of the Lord Jesus Christ!!!

1 Corinthians 15:3-5  “…that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas,  and then to the Twelve.”

The thing that marks Christianity as different from other religions is that we worship and serve a risen Savior, not a dead prophet. Our religion relies on a personal relationship with the living King, not some rituals passed down for centuries.

This year Easter Sunday has been a little abnormal for my family: we went to a different church, ate lunch out (welcome to Moe’s!), and did our own thing this afternoon (Masters watching, reading outside in the sunshine, playing basketball, napping). Normally there’s a cookout with extended family which includes LOTS of good Southern food and LOTS of sugary sweets! But because of recovering from surgeries, plans with others, and time constraints, there  was no family cookout or egg hunt. It’s kind of bittersweet actually…

But today isn’t just about family and food, and I’m thankful that that’s not the focus of today for my family.

This morning at church, the sermon was about how we cannot refute the evidence for a Risen Lord.

Exhibit B: EYEWITNESS Accounts (1 Corinthians 15:5-8)

Exhibit C: CHANGED Lives (the Apostles & other believers)

How was your Easter Sunday???

Were you as excited about Bubba Watson winning the Masters as my family was?! He totally deserved that win. I think we were all touched by how emotional he was. Well played, Watson.
